Martin Luther King, Jr.

You faced injustice, hate and strife.
You fought for what should be.
You risked and finally gave your life,
So others could be free.

DISCRIMINATE, HATE, CONFLICT YOU FACE
PROTEST SUPPORT EQUAL PEOPLE
YOUR LIFE YOU RISK, GIVE-UP
WHY? OTHERS CAN FREE

You could have hated, but you chose
To love and understand,
Rejecting violence to oppose
An evil in our land.

SECOND HATE YOU-honor CAN, BUT YOU-honor CHOOSE-FIRST
WHAT? LOVE, UNDERSTAND
FIGHT YOU-honor CLOSE-SECOND,
PURPOSE, AGAINST EVIL HERE LAND

You’d not inflame, but still inspire,
With hope that wouldn’t yield.
You called for boycotts, not for fire,
With faith your only shield

CROWD NOT ANGRY, INSPIRE
HOPE, NOT GIVE-UP
YOU-honor ENCOURAGE PICKET, NOT FIRE
FAITH YOUR PROTECTION

You marched in protest for the poor
Of every shade and hue.
So many hardships you’d endure
For those who needed you.

YOU-honor MARCH SUPPORT POOR
BLACK, WHITE, CHINESE, INDIAN, VARIOUS
PROBLEM, FRUSTRATION, YOU-honor TOLERATE
WHY? THEY NEED YOU-honor

You stirred a nation’s heart and mind;
Your message still is clear:
That color’s not how we’re defined.
Your memory’s always near.

COUNTRY HEART, MIND EXCITE
YOUR STORY STILL CLEAR
SKIN-COLOR NOT DEFINE US
STILL LOOK-BACK REMEMBER

Each year your birth’s a holiday.
The nation honors you,
And wonders when we’ll see the day
Your dream at last comes true.

EVERY-YEAR YOUR BIRTHDAY HOLIDAY
COUNTRY HONOR-you
WONDER FUTURE HAPPEN
YOUR DREAM FINALLY BECOME TRUE
